Fly half Harry Langbridge is Niall Lear’s choice for January’s Lacons Brewery Player of the Month. “The team’s performances improved significantly in January,” said Niall, “and Harry was outstanding in every game. He’s good offensively and defensively and has a calm manner to his play which is particularly important at 10.
This is the first time he’s played in England, obviously conditions are very different to back home in Queensland and he’s adapted remarkably quickly.”
The Australian, who has an English passport and so is eligible to play in the National Leagues, debuted at Bury St Edmunds in September and has featured in every game bar one since, scoring three tries. “Obviously it’s been tough, results haven’t been good but I’ve enjoyed myself and learnt a lot. North Walsham is a great Club and you couldn’t have a better group of players to play and socialise with.” He too was quick to mention the different environment, “never played in sideways rain before or on such soft ground, I’m used to 35 degrees at home!”
Harry, who will be returning home in March, grew up in Noosa, about 90 miles north of Brisbane. He joined the local club there aged five or six, before progressing alongside brother Leo to North Brisbane for whom they both play in the Queensland Premier. The opportunity for them both to come to North Walsham came through Niall knowing one of the coaching team at North Brisbane.
Harry’s no 10 position is sponsored by Malthouse Security Systems.
