5 Years Ago – February 2019

No game on the comparable weekend but the previous Saturday the Vikings romped to a 22 – 50 win at Eton Manor to retain third place in the table. The match saw Matt Hodgson kick five conversions to overtake Henry Dewing as the Club’s leading points scorer. Jim Riley got a second half hat trick, there were two tries for Will Swart with Lachlan Brown-Bates, Andre Dunn and James Knight the other scorers. Our correspondent commented, “as ever the victory was built on solid defence and in attack their opponents just could not match their surety of handling, decisiveness, pace and inventiveness.”

10 Years Ago – February 2014

The Vikings travelled to Brentwood for the second time in a fortnight, the first match having been postponed on arrival. Two understrength teams – this should have been a “free weekend” – fought out a 31 – 31 draw, both teams scoring five tries. A Rhys Davies- Horne try from the final play, converted by James Knight, his third of the match, secured the draw. That was Davies – Horne’s second try, the others coming from Aki Downing, Will Quinn and Cutu Serruys.
