Love Rugby and Touch to Twickenham

This May, North Walsham hosted two new events at Scottow, organised by Dean Keats of Aylsham High School: Love Rugby and Touch to Twickenham, with both proving to be hugely popular.
Love Rugby is a girls only event established in line with the RFU #EveryRose campaign to increase the number of girls in the sport, as England prepare to host the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup. Our Schools funded coaching team helped to make the event a real success with many girls picking up a rugby ball for the first time and, by the end of the day, some were even having a go at being the referee!
We also hosted Touch to Twickenham, another RFU schools campaign where the national winners will play a match in the interval at one of the Six Nations home games at Twickenham next year. We are delighted that the Norfolk event hosted at North Walsham RFC was one of the best attended in the country, with over 15 local schools entering teams.
We had some sensational feedback from PE teachers too, who supported the event.

“The girls had an excellent day as this provided and excellent opportunity for the girls to play more rugby. Very beneficial for a school that has a small PE team to give them this additional and positive opportunity with the support of friendly and helpful coaches. It had a great atmosphere, and it provided a positive environment for the girls to have more exposure to rugby.” E. Keel, Broadland High School.

“Brilliant day of development rugby. The day allowed students to enjoy rugby in a fun learning environment. Thanks to North Walsham RFC for hosting.” D. Gay, KES.

“The Love Rugby event was so much fun and the girls loved the atmosphere where the support from North Walsham Rugby Club was excellent. It was inclusive, yet we still enjoyed the element of competition, and it has encouraged our students to continue to participate in rugby.” M. Jacotine, Acle High School.

“Touch to Twickenham was a great event with a fantastic festival/competition feel. All games were played in a good spirit and enjoyed the mix gender element of the competition which is quite rare in school sport.” J. Tubbs, North Walsham High School.

“Great fun, a super day out for everyone taking part. Rugby in this format really provides opportunity for all those that are looking to get into and/or enjoy a fast and open non-contact version of the game.” S. Pope, Langley School.
